Originally, Isaac's surgeon had recommended that we stay in Boston for a full week after surgery. But after seeing how well Isaac was recovering, we decided to ask if there was any wiggle room with that timeline. Thankfully, his doctor felt comfortable letting us head home a little early, so as of Tuesday, we're officially back in Iowa! 🙌
Isaac continues to do extremely well! He's no longer taking any pain medication, he's moving around really well, and it's honestly amazing to see how quickly his body is recovering after such a major surgery!
With that said, he still has a lot of healing to do. His doctor wants him to stay home from school for 1–2 weeks following surgery, and he'll have physical activity restrictions for the 4.
If you know Isaac, you know how much he loves basketball! He's been practicing like crazy for months, getting ready for the upcoming season. As it turns out, basketball season starts the exact same day as his 4-week follow-up appointment with his neurosurgeon in Boston. We're really praying he'll get cleared at that appointment so he can get back to doing what he loves!
In the meantime, his surgeon was very clear that he isn't even allowed to lift a basketball over his head to shoot for the next four weeks. 😬 That might be one of the hardest parts of recovery for him! 😂 But we also know that the better he follows his doctor's instructions now, the better chance he has of healing well and being ready when the time comes.
We're still waiting for the final pathology results, but as of right now, the plan is simply to let him rest and recover at home before returning to school. He'll also have another MRI here in Iowa in 3 months to make sure everything continues to look good and there are no signs of new growth. We'd appreciate your prayers for that upcoming scan as well!
We're so thankful that surgery was successful in removing the new active portion of his tumor and that his recovery has gone so well!
God has been so faithful through this journey, and we've felt incredibly cared for by so many people surrounding our family. We're grateful for all the prayers, encouragement, and support, and especially thankful to be back home with Isaac doing so well! ❤️
